about

Inspired by the idea of the ageing Knife-Thrower, whose hand begins to shake, but who must go on in spite of the danger to his assistant as it's all he knows how to do. A metaphor for the musician's life - an homage to the central idea of the Partice Leconte film 'Girl On A Bridge'.
(Great idea - silly film.)

lyrics

The Knife-Thrower’s Hand

I’ve got no more magic
Left up my sleeve
But this is business
There is no time to grieve

But the thought of broken skin
Makes me think again

I’ve always had
A good eye for a curve
Now, just need something
To steady my nerve

But the thought of breaking skin
Does me in, y’know?
And I wish that dress she’s in
Was made of tin, y’know?

If there’s a patron saint
For every carnie man
Come down and steady
My old knife-thrower’s hand

I can remember
Just the end and the start
But none, none of the middle
And that was the best part

In my days of breaking in
I had to win to show
But the ladies put me in
A tailspin, y’know

If there’s a patron saint
Come help me all you can
Come down and steady
My old knife-thrower’s hand
